Checking Back In With a Painted Wraith

Hey folks!

Been a while (almost a year) since my last post. Couldn't get much into the hobby in the last 10 months, but I am finally back at it! Since the new Codex came out, along with a pretty awesome new Overlord model, I have been busy dusting off the Necrons and finally getting some paint on the things.

This post is more so to motivate myself and get me back on track with posting progress shots (thus creating the onus of actually making progress), but here is what I just finished today:

I am definitely pleased with the way this one turned out! It took me a while to decide on colors and combinations and the like, and some of the claws are painted to a pretty low quality if you look closely enough, but overall I love the model! The greens came out really well, and the rust effect turned out WAY better than I thought it would. It even puts the Destroyers to shame, even though I still enjoy those dudes too.

I have 5 more of these to paint, one of which is heavily modified with Spyder parts because apparently I convert too many things and couldn't complete it, so I will hopefully have more to show soon!

Please comment with any suggestions! Thanks.

Painting Rust

I think here, more than anywhere else in my army, is where I need the most help. And how can you help, you ask? Simple - let me know what you think! Using larger surfaces, so far only on Destroyers, I would like to paint on a more rigorous rust effect than what the Kromlech rust compound can do alone. Here are a few examples of how the rust is coming out so far.

So far, I love it! But I am not sure if that's just my own infatuation with my first attempt or actual success at portraying rust. I am using a couple different images of actual rust for inspiration, and I think it looks similar. Not exact, but not bad either.

When I get the look down pat I am going to be adding it to all my vehicle conversions (Annihilation Barges, my Ghost Ark, Doomsday Ark, Triarch Stalker, etc.).

So - What do you think? Should it be more subtle? Are the colors off? Is it perfect? Which is your favorite? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks folks.

The Bread and Butter - Necron Warriors

First of all, sorry for the less-than-perfect lighting and focus. I'm working on it!

Anyways, the Necron Warrior! Nothing special here, just the Infinite Phalanx of advancing Warriors. This displays my color scheme more than anything else. Bone color (Screaming Skull), Gold/Bronze inner-workings (Balthasar Gold), and a couple greens for the glow (primarily Warboss and Moot Greens). The orange is my intended rust effect, compliments of Kromlech orange rust weathering powder, occasionally mixed in with Casandora Yellow wash.

Lots more to paint...
